2016 Car of the Year Evaluation & Judging

Opel Corsa SportAt the beginning of February 2016, the competition’s jury team will begin preparations for one of the toughest evaluations yet, with two solid days of extensive evaluation for each of the vehicles featured in the list of finalists. These will be done at the renowned Gerotek testing facility that is located near Pretoria. Here, the COTY jury will do independent assessments of each vehicle, using routes and test modules that are created to test cars much as a typical consumer would during a test drive.

The goal of the Car of the Year competition is, of course, to recognise and reward excellence within the auto industry. With that in mind, each and every vehicle will be put to the test in a range of categories, including:

  • Overall value for money
  • Technology and safety features
  • Driving performance
  • General quality of design
  • Interior features
  • Exterior features
  • Handling and dynamics
  • Fuel efficiency

Jury members will have full access to additional diagnostic information, such as independent performance test results, pricing guides, specification information, parts pricing and information and any other relevant information that will affect consumers. This information is provided by MAPO – digital partner to the SAGMJ.

The final winner will be announced at a special gala event on 8 March 2016. In the meantime, you can keep a look out for branded COTY finalist Opel Adam and Corsa vehicles that will be driving around towns countrywide.

We wish these outstanding Opel vehicle brands the best of luck, and look forward to watching the action unfold as the build-up to the 2016 WesBank Car of the Year competition gets underway.
