“GMSA’s Chevrolet Cruze has been around for a few years, during which time the range have been expanded to include the hatchback. Now a facelift, together with the introduction of a new engine and transmission combination have added new focus on the range. (Follow this link for the details and pricing).
The introduction of the turbocharged 1,4-litre EcoTec petrol engine (sourced from within the GM group) with a six-speed automatic transmission in the sedan, was of particular interest to me particularly after having lots of experience with manual gearboxes in the Cruze, offering as they do a standard, easy to shift experience.
Automatic transmissions in cars this side of the market, however, can at times be slow to shift, reducing the effort of the engine. Fortunately that was not the case in the Cruze. The 1,4-litre engine delivers 103 kW and 200 N.m. Connected to this 6-speed automatic transmission, Chevrolet claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 10,4 seconds with a top speed of 204 km/h. Fuel consumption is said to be 6,8 litre/100 km.”
