Killarney – April 2011

Williams Hunt Opel race team - Killarney 2011After the crash at Kyalami the Opel was repaired and a number of minor changes done to improve the car. On the Friday during the practice rounds things did not go the way the team was hoping – the car’s engine blew. With Williams Hunt Cape Town providing parts to repair the engine the team worked hard into the night and by eleven the car was back up and running although a little smokey.

On Saturday morning, a positive Michael qualified fourth, although not 100% happy with the engine the team decided to go out and give it all. In the first race Michael raced well managing to hold on to fourth, pushing the two Golfs and a Ford that finished just ahead of him.

A short clip of Michael warming up and the running start of the first race;

During the second race the engine over heated forcing Michael to withdraw, he was sitting second at the time. After the team had inspected the engine it was decided to withdraw as the engine was about to blown and was leaking oil. Michael’s performance had shown the team the car was on pace and if they could resolve the reliability issues, they were on the right path.
