NEW Opel Combo Cargo to redefine SA light commercial segment in 2019

The past year has been an exciting one for Opel in South Africa, and it would seem that 2019 is ready to take over where this one leaves off. How so? Well, for one thing, Opel's trailblazing new van range is making its way to SA shores. This includes the trendsetting Opel Combo Life people carrier, as well as the game-changing Opel Combo Cargo - a panel van that has been awarded the coveted IVOTY (International Van of the Year) award straight out of the gate.

As far as spacious vehicle solutions go, this is going to set a brand-new bar. The chairman of the IVOTY jury, Mr Jarlath Sweeny, stated as much when he noted that the Opel van range has completely reimagined what is possible in terms of tech and design in a light commercial vehicle.

According to Sweeny, the IVOTY jury's decision to name the Opel Combo Cargo as the winner of their coveted title was largely influenced by the exceptional adaptability of the vehicle range, as well as the fact that it had been tailored expressly with the needs of the business owner or fleet manager in mind. In their opinion it ticks all the boxes buyers in this segment need to consider when they shop around for a vehicle that will allow them to manage compliance and safety on the road.

Some of the many features of the Opel Combo Cargo van that stand out upon first inspection is the variety of first-in-class driver aids that include an overload alert system and surround rear vision. The vehicle is also available in two wheelbase variants, two lengths and two-, three- or five-seater versions, which means you can choose the Cargo that best suits your needs. Additionally, the range includes an all-wheel drive variant that is tailormade for utility companies that require traction on tough terrain. Add a latest-generation powertrain and a load capacity of up to 1000kg to the picture, and you can see why the Opel Combo Cargo is set to shake things up in its segment.

The Opel Combo Life is likewise impressive and bound to become a firm favourite of SA families and business owners alike. Motorists will be able to choose between five or seven seats, one or two rear doors, and a shorter (4.4m) and longer (4.75m) length to customise their ride to their exact requirements.
